1997-2013 Harley-Davidson Touring Öhlins Complete Front and Rear Suspension Kit (FKC Cartridges, Springs + STX 36 Shocks)
The 1997-2013 Harley touring bikes are the backbone of the used bagger market, and every one of them left the factory with damper rod forks and budget rear shocks that are now decades past their best. This kit rebuilds both ends with Öhlins: the FKC 101 cartridge kit with its matched Öhlins fork springs up front, and your choice of Öhlins STX 36 rear shocks out back. One order, both ends, matched by the people who build suspension for MotoGP and the King of the Baggers grid.
What is in the kit
- Öhlins FKC 101 fork cartridge kit (pair) for the 41mm Showa fork, springs included, built on Öhlins NIX technology with rebound damping in one leg and compression in the other, 8mm steel shafts, aluminum damper tubes, and 25mm pistons. No external adjusters to fuss with: valved correctly out of the box.
- Öhlins STX 36 rear shocks (pair) in your choice of series and spring rating.
Pick your rear shock series
Blackline Monotube: gas-charged monotube damping in a blacked-out 13 in body with adjustable preload. The classic Öhlins twin shock that transformed thousands of these bikes. The value pick, and still a serious piece of suspension.
Reservoir: the step up. Piggyback reservoir construction adds oil capacity and damping consistency for hard two-up miles and hot days, with the full Öhlins adjustability. For 1999 and newer models.
Pick your spring rating
Ratings are total load ranges. 150-500 lb covers most solo riders and lighter two-up loads. 250-575 lb is for regular two-up riding, loaded bags and trunk, or heavier total loads. If your combined rider, passenger, and cargo weight lives above roughly 240 lb most rides, take the heavier spring.
Rebuildable, not disposable
Öhlins builds every damper in this kit to be serviced and rebuilt rather than replaced. On a generation of bikes that owners keep for decades, that matters: this is the last suspension purchase the bike should ever need.
Why front and rear together
Upgrade one end and the other immediately becomes the weak point; mix mismatched rates and lengths and you can upset the handling of an 850 lb machine. This kit pairs the FKC cartridges and their included springs with STX 36 rears so the whole chassis is working from the same sheet of music.
Fitment
Fits 1997-2013 Harley-Davidson Touring models with the 41mm Showa fork, including Road King (FLHR, FLHRC, FLHRS), Street Glide (FLHX, 2006-2013), Road Glide (FLTR, FLTRX, FLTRU), Electra Glide Standard, Classic, and Ultra Classic, plus Screamin Eagle and CVO variants per the fitment list. The Reservoir rear shock option fits 1999 and newer models; 1997-1998 bikes should choose the Blackline Monotube. Not for 2014 and newer Touring models with 49mm forks; we carry a separate 2014-2016 Öhlins kit for those.
Ordering and install notes
Öhlins components can be built to order, so allow additional lead time. Rear shocks are a bolt-on install; the fork cartridge and spring install requires fork disassembly and is worth shop time if you have not been inside a set of forks. Set sag front and rear for your load after install. Kit ships as two factory boxes: cartridge kit with springs, and shocks.
