The Milwaukee-Eight Softail chassis is genuinely good, and the suspension is where the factory saved the money. This kit fixes both ends with Öhlins: NIX 22 fork cartridges up front and the model-specific STX 46 rear shock out back, matched as one package. Pick your model and the correct rear shock comes with it.

What is in the kit

  • Öhlins NIX 22 fork cartridge kit (pair) for the 49mm Showa fork, with compression damping in one leg and rebound in the other and adjustments at the top caps. Bolts into your original fork legs.
  • Öhlins STX 46 rear shock (single, as the Softail chassis uses one under-seat monoshock) built for your specific model, with adjustable preload and Öhlins monotube damping.

Pick your model

Street Bob, Softail Slim, Deluxe: STX 46 tuned for the mid-weight M8 Softails. Heritage Classic: the version valved and rated for the heavier bagger-lite Heritage. Breakout: matched to the long, raked Breakout chassis. Fat Boy: pairs the Fat Boy-specific NIX 22 cartridge kit with the matching STX 46.

Rebuildable, not disposable

Every Öhlins damper here is built to be serviced and rebuilt. Set it once, maintain it, keep it for the life of the bike.

Why front and rear together

The M8 Softail's single rear shock does a lot of work; upgrade it alone and the soft stock fork becomes the limiting factor immediately, diving under the brakes the moment the rear starts holding a line. This kit brings both ends up to the same standard at once.

Fitment

Fits 2018-2021 Harley-Davidson Softail models per the option selected: Street Bob (FXBB), Softail Slim (FLSL), Deluxe (FLDE), Heritage Classic (FLHC, FLHCS), Breakout (FXBR, FXBRS), and Fat Boy (FLFBS). Not for Fat Bob (FXFB), which uses an inverted fork (we carry the Öhlins NIX 30 for it separately), or Low Rider S and ST. If your model or year is not listed, contact us before ordering.

Ordering and install notes

Öhlins components can be built to order, so allow additional lead time. The rear shock install on an M8 Softail requires lifting the bike and accessing the under-seat shock; the fork cartridge install requires fork disassembly. Both are well within a good shop's wheelhouse. Set sag for your load after install.
